Urea DAP Bag Calculator

How many urea and DAP bags per acre? Convert nutrient needs into bag counts. Use the free Urea DAP Bag Calculator below — enter your values and get instant results, right in your browser. Urea bags = N kg × acres ÷ 0.46 ÷ 50. DAP bags = P kg × acres ÷ 0.46 ÷ 50. Each DAP bag also gives 9 kg N — subtract that from the urea total.

How to use the Urea DAP Bag Calculator

Agronomists prescribe nutrients in kilos, but the dealer sells 50-kg bags — and urea (46% nitrogen) and DAP (46% phosphate) are the two bags every wheat and rice farmer buys. This calculator converts your per-acre nitrogen and phosphorus needs into exact bag counts for the whole field. One caution built into the note: DAP also carries 18% nitrogen, so every bag of DAP displaces about 0.4 bag of urea — apply DAP at sowing, then top up the remaining nitrogen with urea later.

  1. Enter the nitrogen needed per acre in kg (from the NPK tool or soil test).
  2. Enter the phosphorus needed per acre in kg.
  3. Enter your field area in acres.
  4. Click Calculate to see urea and DAP bag counts.
  5. Remember to reduce urea for the nitrogen that DAP already supplies.

Formula

Urea bags = N kg × acres ÷ 0.46 ÷ 50. DAP bags = P kg × acres ÷ 0.46 ÷ 50. Each DAP bag also gives 9 kg N — subtract that from the urea total.

Worked example

Five acres needing 50 kg N and 35 kg P per acre: urea = 250 ÷ 0.46 ÷ 50 = 10.87 bags; DAP = 175 ÷ 0.46 ÷ 50 = 7.61 bags. The DAP supplies 68 kg N, so cut about 3 urea bags.

Frequently asked questions

About 2.2 bags per acre for a 50 kg N target — before adjusting for the nitrogen in DAP.

At sowing time, banded near the seed — phosphorus does not move in soil, so it must go down with the seed.

No — split it: half at sowing, half at first irrigation, to cut nitrogen losses.
